Victoria (2016) review

So I recently have finished another period-drama about royals. And I actually quite enjoy this type of show. But anyway, today I want to talk about a series that I just loved. And even though it wasn't the most realistic and historically accurate, I fell in love with 2016's "Victoria" series. And for those who don't know, I will summarise the plot real quick. SPOILER ALERT

So basically, "Victoria" is about the young Queen Victoria's reign. From the day Her Majesty became queen to The Great Exhibition's opening day. And you get to know more about her personal life, like, for example, about her kids.

The show also covers important historical events, such as the Great Famine and the Industrial Revolution. BUT, there's a catch. Like I said, this series is not that historically accurate. "But Alexia, you just said that it covers important events!". Yeah, but how to say...so this series does show us these incidents, but they are more like special episodes. The show is actually more based on Queen Victoria's marriage. And I do understand why. I mean, it's a period-DRAMA after all, so it was evident that it was going to be dramatised.

But if you start an entire series just for drama, *AHEM like me*, this series is perfect. And the quality is also excellent. The acting is outstanding. Jenna Coleman and Tom Hughes did a BRILLIANT job. Also, I warn you, this series is addicting. I mean, I finished it in like 4 days. This is quite fast since there are 3 seasons in total. Now more on the actual show, the cinematography is also exquisite. I mean, you can tell that they actually hired good people. The scrips are pretty good written. I'm not very good when it comes to writing. But I mean, I personally consider good witting if the story makes sense. In this case, it does. The set and the outfits are actually very accurate. For example, they recreated Prince Albert's costumes, which are so good.

But like every series with more than 2 seasons, this show did get more scripted and unrealistic. I mean, season 3 is written from start to end. Nothing that the third season presented really happened. This season was definitely made for rating, but I still enjoyed it very much, actually. In season 3, Victoria and Albert start arguing over Feodora (Victoia's half-sister), which is portrayed differently from reality. Here, she is terrible and cruel and tries to take over Victoria's throne. Also, Feodora tries to turn Albert against his wife. But in reality, she was the other way around, and she never tried to betrayal her sister or turn the prince against her.

In conclusion, I give this a 9.5 out of 10 for drama. I loved it. And the fact that Jenna Coleman and Tom Hughes really dated in real life made the characters have even more chemistry. But when it comes to an overall rating for the show, it's probably an 8 for me. Not because I didn't like it, simply because they changed Feodora's whole personality, and that added unnecessarily information and scenes.
