The shortest and saddest love story??! The Electrical Life of Lois Wain (2021) review
So I've watched "The Electrical Life of Louis Wain" and I've cried my eyes out.
The Electrical Life of Louis Wain is a new film with Benedict Cumberbatch and guess who...Claire Foy AKA HM The Queen. The movie is based on Louis Wain, the famous artist and his connection with cats. BIG SPOILERS!
So... I don't even know how to start. And I'm not saying this because I didn't like the film, but it's pretty hard to talk about it. Again, don't get me wrong, for me, it was a very decent movie. The acting was absolutely BRILLIANT, as expected, but the writing and the storyline...eh. And if you're reading this before you've watched it, well, this review is not for you. If you don't know how this film is, you won't understand much from this.
Basically, the storyline just follows the actual events more quickly. I mean, in the first 15 minutes, you have Louis (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Emily (Claire Foy) married. Then in the next 10 or maybe 5 minutes, you get to know that Emily has cancer and so on until you get to the point where Louis Wain himself dies. But I personally got lost in time and in the CATastic adventure. Did you get it? CATastic?? No, ok, ok, never mind.
On the accuracy, well yeah, it was pretty accurate. I can't necessarily compare natural history to this film because I just can't. Also, I really liked how the writers started to show how depressing Louis' life was getting. Marie, one of his sisters, was diagnosed with schizophrenia. At this point, I was sad, but it all ended for me when Peter died; that's when the first tear dropped. During the film, I realised that Louis Wain wasn't referring to electricity as watts; he talked about your feelings (emotional AF, I know).
Fun fact: did you know that the narrator in the movie is actually Olivia Colman, who plays the older version of HM The Queen in The Crown, the same series and character Claire Foy played? (MINDBLOWNED)
In the end, I give it a 6.60 out of 10 for drama and an overall 6 out of 10. I was sad, but not dramatic.
