The different type of drama: The Great (2020) review
Oh, how I loved this series. And I actually have this review in my drafts for a LONG LONG time. So I happily present to you, The Great (2020) review. OF COURSE SPOILER ALERT!
Like I said, I have had this review in my drafts for a very long time, I started writing it precisely after the new year. But yet, here it is, 7 months later 😂. I just didn't have the motivation to write.
Summary: Catherine, a 16-year-old with great expectations and morals is getting married to the EMPEROR OF RUSSIA?!! Such an adventure for the young and inexperienced girl. But when she meets Peter, the emperor, she realises that she couldn't have been more wrong with her expectations because Peter is very childish and nearly manages to rule his own palace. The lifestyle people have is crazy, they fight and shoot each other for fun and always do crazy stuff. Catherine is shocked by that and decides to plot against Peter and save Russia from the worst ruler ever.
This is probably one of the few period dramas that are not historically accurate and I DON'T mind that. Really, I could never imagine this series without the constant comedy, plot twists and of course the modern vocabulary. I know that I'm always super obsessed with history and accuracy and stuff, but sometimes it just happens for me to watch a show like this. And I genuinely don't know how to explain this, but I liked the TV show so much that I finished it in 3 days.
Oh yeah and despite the toxicity between Catherine and Peter guess what, I still ship them. Maybe I have problems, but I like them ok :)). Btw please note that the language is kinda strong and the scenes are not really that much but they still have something to them. See more to understand what I'm talking about here.
Everything about this show is fun even the plot itself is logical and comical. I mean the whole story starts with Catherine who is a truly ambitious feminist and wants equality for girls too so she builds a school, but then Peter burns it. Of course, there are other events that make Catherine hate him even more and I don't want to give more spoilers.
But yeah in the end I give the show an 8/10 because I just loved it and I can't wait for the third season. And for the history a 3/10, but it doesn't really matter as the show is meant to be a comedy. HUZZAH and catch you in the next one.
