The Crown season 5...

Season 5 has just arrived and I feel we need to talk. I still haven't finished it, but I want to share some thoughts on the situation. So, when is this season set in, what is it about and what tf made people so mad?

Netflix

The fifth season of The Crown has been out for less than 3 days and has already caused some controversy, mainly because of the presented subject. If you don't know, The Crown is a Netflix tv series that's been out since 2016 and it shows the British Royal Familly over the years while also getting more into their private lives.

The new episodes are set in maybe one of the darkest times of Queen Elizabeth II's reign, the 90s. Windsor Castle was destroyed by a horrible fire and of course, we have Princess Diana, a sensitive subject. This made people angry as the portrayal of the Royal Family is apparently somehow incorrect. Now, I'm not the person to talk about that because I have different opinions which may not please everyone. But I do think that everyone is allowed to interpret the truth however they want as long as there is at least a tiny bit of reality left.

But yeah, other than that, I just don't know what else to say. Heck, The Crown is producing such a spectacle even John Major talked about it. Though I am a simple fan of drama and I can say for sure the new cast was a delightful surprise. BUT...I just have this feeling that I'm most afraid of. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like the show isn't hitting the same as it used to. It's just something there that makes it no longer the same, but I don't know what it is.

I mean the first 2 seasons will always, always be the best in my opinion. If I had to describe them in only one word it would be 'powerful'. Then we have the third and fourth seasons which were incredible as well we have Margaret Thatcher, Aberfan and the starting point of Charles and Diana. One word to describe them would be 'unexplored'. And finally, we get to the fifth and presumably the sixth seasons which I don't know what to say about yet.

But still, there is something there. Maybe it's the lack of music or maybe the new cast (which I like, but it's not the same) or maybe it's just the timeline that I do not like. But whatever it is, I know for sure that something's off. And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the new season is bad, of course not! It's so great because it's set in a time when cameras were already quite advanced and the materials could always be checked. For example, take the interview Diana gave. It can always be checked, but the show already made an impeccable copy whilst still not being a documentary, but a TV show. And I think this is what I like the most about The Crown, it shows the truth incredibly accurately, but it's not a documentary.

But yeah, The Crown will always be a top in historic dramas and a top in my favourites whether it continues the old style we're all used to or it changes to something new
